The Institute of Social Education (ISE) unites educators, teachers, children, and volunteers across Tamil Nadu to promote inclusive, high-quality education for all. As a non-governmental organization, ISE is driven by experts with over two decades of experience in human rights education, children’s rights, and the right to education.
Established in 1998 under the Indian Trust Act, SOLAR Trust is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering underprivileged communities to claim their rights and access resources for a dignified and sustainable livelihood. The Trust’s core focus areas include women’s empowerment, sustainable livelihoods, organic farming, environmental protection, and education.
ISE was initially founded as a unit of SOLAR Trust to promote equitable and quality education across Tamil Nadu. Its efforts were well received by teachers and students, leading to its establishment as an independent entity under the Indian Trust Act while continuing as a sister concern of SOLAR Trust.
Since 2000, ISE has implemented various programs to support the Right to Free and Compulsory Education, benefiting teachers, students, school management, and local governance representatives. The organization played a key role in establishing the Federation of Child-Friendly Schools in Tamil Nadu and has built strong partnerships with over 1,800 schools and 21 unions to foster child-friendly educational practices.
While SOLAR Trust focuses on broader social concerns, ISE remains dedicated exclusively to advancing education for all.
At ISE, we believe in creating a holistic and inclusive learning environment through three key pillars: Educate, Engage, and Empower.
